Oil on board set in a fine decorative gilt frame.
Large proportion sized frame being 101cm wide and 70cm tall.

Biography of the artist T. Slowsky is an American painter who was born during the early 20th Century. He painted marine, naval or working ships, usually in turbulent waters. T. Slowsky's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2005 the record price for this artist at auction is 1,800 USD for SHIP, sold at Doyle in 2005.
This is a rather fine example of his work. Such an impressive sought after dramatic scene of a French tall masted sailing ship in distress and floundering on stormy rough choppy high seas, the central mast has already been ripped and fallen into the sea with some wreckage shown floating, leaving a stump behind. With various rope lines on the ship which have been ripped and are dangling.
With many figures of the sailor crew dressed in there weatherproof hats and large coats all on deck mainly on the starboard side awaiting rescue. The ship is rolling and listing on large rolling waves. A longboat has been launched and is just below the floundering ship attempting to rescue more sailors who are clinging desperately to the side of the ship. You can see the French ensign flag hoisted flying on the 1st mast.
To the right are 2 other rescue sailing boat ships nearly on the way.A barrel is also floating along with some other wreckage. 1 sailor is in the water clinking to to some wreckage, above him another sailor is falling head first from the bow. To the far right in the distance is a third rescue ship you can see its sailing towards them on the horizon. With mainly dark storm clouds above with some blue shining through. This is such a fine example of his work.
