  • 1 feines, beeindruckendes Kunstwerk aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, Schlachtenporträt „Der verwundete Grieche, zugeschrieben Abraham Cooper RA“
  • Subjektporträt eines gefallenen griechischen Soldaten nach einem intensiven Kampf mit zwei Frauen, die über ihn schauen und den verletzten Mann pflegen, eine kniet rechts und stützt seinen Kopf und die andere steht links und hält die Zügel des Pferdes hinter sich, während er liegt auf dem Boden mit seinem gebogenen Schwert in der rechten Hand, sein Hut liegt neben ihm auf dem Boden. Weiter hinten steht sein Pferd aufrecht im Seitenprofil nach links wartend mit besorgtem Blick und einem schönen Ziersattel. Auf der rechten Seite können Sie einen Teil eines alten Tempelgebäudes aus Marmor sehen. Im entfernten Hintergrund links können Sie Staubwolken von rennenden Pferden und anderen Kriegerfiguren sehen, mit grauem Himmel darüber.

  • Dem britischen Künstler Abraham Cooper RA (1787–1868) zugeschrieben, war ein britischer Tier- und Schlachtenmaler.
    Als Sohn eines Tabakhändlers wurde er am 8. September 1787 in Greenwich, London, geboren. Mit dreizehn Jahren wurde er Angestellter im Astley's Amphitheatre und war danach Stallknecht in den Diensten von Henry Meux, einem Brauer und später dem Ersten der Baronette von Meux.
  • Als er zweiundzwanzig Jahre alt war und ein Porträt seines Lieblingspferdes unter seiner Obhut besitzen wollte, kaufte er sich ein Malbuch, lernte etwas über die Verwendung von Ölfarben und malte das Bild auf eine Leinwand, die an der Stallwand hing. Sein Meister kaufte es und ermutigte ihn, seine Bemühungen fortzusetzen.
  • Dementsprechend begann er, Drucke von Pferden zu kopieren, und wurde Benjamin Marshall, dem Tiermaler, vorgestellt, der ihn in sein Atelier nahm und ihm anscheinend das Sporting Magazine vorstellte, eine illustrierte Zeitschrift, für die er selbst einen Beitrag leistete.
  • 1814 stellte er seinen Tam O'Shanter aus und 1816 gewann er einen Preis für seine Schlacht bei Ligny. 1817 stellte er seine Schlacht von Marston Moor aus und wurde zum Mitglied der Royal Academy ernannt, und 1820 wurde er zum Akademiker gewählt. Obwohl Cooper schlecht ausgebildet war, war er ein kluger und gewissenhafter Künstler; Seine Farbe war etwas flach und tot, aber er war ein Meister der Pferdeporträts und -anatomie und verfügte über einige antiquarische Kenntnisse. Er hatte eine besondere Vorliebe für Kavalier- und Rundkopfbilder. Er starb am 24. Dezember 1868 und wurde oben auf der Westseite des Highgate Cemetery (Grundstück Nr. 830) an der Nordwand begraben.
