The Original Boy & Rabbit painting was done by Henry Raeburn in 1814 this unknown artist rendition was done 40 years later during 1850's.
Subject portrait of young boy child with pet rabbit.
Henry Raeburn RA was born in 1756 and went on to enjoy an unchallenged position as the leading Scottish portrait painter of his day.
Henry used his godson and step- grandson Henry Raeburn Inglis as his model for this painting.
Sadly there is no record of the rabbits name, but the composition presents the animal as a beloved pet rather then a wild animal.

The domesticity of the scene is a contract to many more formal genre paintings, in which any animals depicted would have typically been chosen for their symbolic value, rather then their relationship with the sitter.
