- Set in a fine carved wooden frame.
- The house is around early 18th century with early 19th century alterations. Roughcast stone with slate roof. L-plan, 2 storeys, and 3-bay front facade. Windows are sashed with glazing bars. Central entrance with gabled trellis porch. Gable-end stacks. Left return of 4 bays, the 4th bay gabled. Slate dripcourse.
- Windows have small-paned casements. Gable-end stack and stack parallel to roof ridge. Rear has lean-to outhouse to front wing, with stair wing under cat slide roof to angle, which has 3-light wood-mullioned windows with leaded glazing to both sides; cat slide roof continued as canopy to return wing, possibly a gallery.
- Interior has chamfered beams, plank and muntin partition and stair with turned balusters and square newels. Wordsworth believed to have lived here while attending Hawkshead Grammar School.
- The house is the property of the National Trust.
- Circa of the oil painting late 20th century dated 1989.
