  • 1 Exceptional Fine Old Antique Victorian Oil Painting Portrait Young Boy With Pet Rabbit After Henry Raeburn.  
  • In the style of similar to after the famous artist Henry Raeburn.
  • The Original Boy & Rabbit painting was done by Henry Raeburn in 1814 this unknown artist rendition was done 40 years later during 1850's.
  • Subject portrait of young boy child with pet rabbit.  
  • Henry Raeburn RA was born in 1756 and went on to enjoy an unchallenged position as the leading Scottish portrait painter of his day.
  • Henry used his godson and step- grandson Henry Raeburn Inglis as his model for this painting.
  • Sadly there is no record of the rabbits name, but the composition presents the animal as a beloved pet rather then a wild animal.
  • He is feeding the rabbit dandelion leaves.
  • The domesticity of the scene is a contract to many more formal genre paintings, in which any animals depicted would have typically been chosen for their symbolic value, rather then their relationship with the sitter.
  • Oil on board.   
  • Set in a beautifully carved gilt wood acanthus frame.  
  • Circa mid 19th century 1850's.  
  • Indistinctly signed by an unknown artist. 
  • With hanging thread on the back ready for home display.

  • The frame is fragile & has some noticeable small carved wood pieces missing from the frame, cracking and having past glue repairs.
