1 Finest Tall Slim Antique Mid Victorian Mahogany Hepplewhite Inlaid Marquetry Bureau Bookcase Signed.
Featuring sumptuous inlaid marquetry High quality having 4 pull out lower drawers.
Standing in bracket feet, astra glazed with 2 doors on the top section with 4 book shelves in the top.
With interior well fitted 4 pigeon holes & 10 smaller sized apothecary drawers.
Dental dart top cornice edging.
The shelves are cut into the bookcase.
Handmade and signed by the maker Jas Shoolbred.
Oak dovetail lined drawers.
Brass handles.
Lockable and comes with key.
The top is screwed onto the base section and it does come part into 2 sections for ease of shipping.
Provenance bought from out of a fine stately home in Shropshire.
James Shoolbred & Co or also knows as Jas Shoolbred was established in the 1820’s as a draper’s shop at Tottenham Court Road, London.
The company first began supplying textiles to the furniture trade.
By the 1860’s, the company began designing, manufacturing and selling its own high quality furniture, in their thriving and fashionable furniture shop.
By the 1880’s, Jas Shoolbred had expanded to such an extent that the business had to move to larger premises.
Becoming one of the first large department stores in London, who would supply quality antique furniture and accessories for the Victorian home.
The furniture was displayed in a series of catalogues that the company produced every year.
Offered in fine used old condition.
Having had some glue repairs repairs to the fixtures below the dart top in places. Also various wear scuffs, scratches stains commensurate with usage & age.
2 holes have been made to the back of the base section as lights where fitted by the previous owner, the lights and wiring are not included
